Hjalmer Qualley

Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Qualley

Karlin Hjalmer Qualley was born in LaMoure, North Dakota in 1887. He married Clara Taasaas on May 29, 1912. She was born in 1893 in Comstock, Minnesota.

Hjalmer came to Roseglen in 1916, coming as far as Plaza by train, where his tractor and plow were shipped, then he drove the tractor to his farm. His wife and two oldest boys came by train to Plaza in June.

The Qualleys settled in Deepwater Township, near Roseglen, and raised ten children on their farm. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in 1966, and were still living on their farm in 1967, when the Golden Jubilee book was published.

Their children are: Carl, Palmer, Mabel, Paul, Alice, Hazel, Clarence, Irene, Lyle, and Clara. Their two oldest sons died at the age of twenty-two and eighteen, respectively.
