Jesse Shafer

Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Shafer

Jesse Shafer came to McLean County, North Dakota, in 1916, as he had received a number for a homestead. He chose a piece of land just north of what would later become Roseglen, in what would become Gate Township, establishing his home there a year or so later.

He took an active part in the organization of Gate Township. In 1924, he married Hallie Erb, who had lived and taught school in the Jeanette community. They continued to live on the farm until Mr. Shafer passed away in October, 1966.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Shafer spent her time with her children, as she was still doing in 1967, when the Golden Jubilee book was published.

The Shafer’s five children were Jesse, Carol, David, Herbert, and Opal.
