John Hill Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. John J. Hill, Sr.

John J. Hill was born in Sogn, Norway on November 7, 1858. He married Johanna Johnson, of Cyrus, Minnesota, on October 17, 1882. Johanna was born in Chicago on December 30, 1864.

Following their marriage, John and Johanna Hill moved to Mondovi, Wisconsin, where they lived until the spring of 1903. At that time, they moved onto a homestead he had filed in Roseglen Township the previous year. They were among the original settlers in the Roseglen community of McLean County, North Dakota.

They lived on their homestead until his death on June 15, 1923. Mrs. Hill passed away at Minot on December 19, 1955. Both are buried at the old Roseglen cemetery.

At the time of her death, Mrs. Hill left one hundred and forty-two living descendants - thirteen children, thirty-nine grandchildren, ninety-three great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Their children were John, Chris, Minnie, Melvin, Oliver, Marie, Hilmer, Carl, Clifford, Ella, William, Arnold, and Floyd.
