Ray Sherwood

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sherwood

Ray Sherwood came to Roseglen Township, North Dakota from Bird Island, Minnesota, taking a homestead in 1908. During the week, he drove stage to Blackwater, staying on his farm on weekends.

Years later, he met Miss Sopha Thomas, who was teaching in the Blackwater School District. She had come to the Fort Berthold Indian Agency, where her father was superintendent.

Ray and Sopha were married on April 2, 1913. Following their marriage, Mrs. Sherwood continued to teach in the Fines School until the spring of 1915.

Mrs. Sherwood passed away in 1935 and, the following year, Ray moved his family to Fargo, where he worked for his brothers in the Sherwood Lumber and Fuel Company.

He was remarried in 1941, to Lila Guyther, who passed away in Novermber of 1966. Ray then moved to Ohio to live with his oldest daughter until his death in February of 1967.

Ray and Sopha Sherwood’s children were Ione, Raymond, Margaret, and Lee.
